Alright, so everyone knows that when it hits late August we see these beautiful mums growing that are just so beautiful you have to take one home from the local hardware store, or the grociery store. Well today I held myself back and didn't buy one even though they are so beautiful. I know they are a perennial, but that's about it. Then I started reading other peoples blogs about them appearing in the spring. I'm really interested in picking a few out and bringing them home, but I don't know a lot about them. I am really interested to know when they actually appear. Is it spring, or is it fall. when do they actually start blooming? I don't know if they are forced to look that nice, or if they are just a natural at being easy to take care of. Then there is the big one, are they poisonous to children or pets? My daughter is at that age where she is putting everything in her mouth, and I can't have anything out that is harmful contender. All of my plants that are inside are fruit baring items. I'd really like to get a few mums around the house, but I can't seem to find a source for these lovely late bloomers.
MUMS the word for fall or is it?

Depending on where you live, garden mums (on the whole) are winter hardy and will return each year. Mums will sprout in the spring and grow into leafy mounds across the summer, and then they start flowering anytime from late summer (late August) until frost. |
