Lumber or composite?

I want to build a pergolla over my patio. I was wondering if anyone has had experience using composite materials instead of pressure treated lumber. I like the idea of not having to stain it and understand from the manufacturer that it lasts a really long time with minimal maintenance - can anyone confirm or refute that?

That stuff is awesome and I think it is made of ALL recycled stuff so its a green thing too. if you are going to use white then just some bleach or "orange" type of cleaner helps when there is more than just dust on it. AND it looks great!

LuLu,

I had a deck built two summers ago and my builder said all his experiences with the composite material were - not good. I know there are some better new products now, but do careful research before you commit. I remember Consumers Report had a good analysis of the products in the last twelve months if that helps.

Thanks - 2 good responses. I will definitely do some more research. I have an exisiting deck very close to where I want to build the pergola and it is lumber stained in a walnut color, so that is something to consider.
