I really like black beans and kidney beans and grabonzo beans. I really don't know anything about them.
I am really interested in exactly how they start and when they are the freshest. Do they dry on the plant? Can you eat them before they dry? Can you buy them before they dry? After they dry I am of the understanding that they keep for a long time. That makes sense. What is the best way to dry them...? Sun? Sorry if this sounds dumb. Thank you all for your input. Joshua |

Joshua, Sorry that nobody answered your query previously. I think we were overwhelmed with the breadth of the questions. There's a lot we can all learn about growing, harvesting and eating beans. Some grow well where I live, many do not (I can't grow garbanzo beans, for example). My first suggestion is to search the Learn2Grow site - type "beans" in the Search field. You'll find several articles about growing, storing, harvesting and cooking beans. My second suggestion is to search the Learn2Grow plant database for different bean profiles. Go to Plant Search tab www.learn2grow.com/plants/ and look at the profiles for green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) www.learn2grow.com/plants/phaseolus-vulg... and faba bean (Vicia faba) www.learn2grow.com/plants/vicia-faba/ and garbanzo bean (Cicer arientinum) www.learn2grow.com/plants/cicer-arietinu... Good luck! Let us know how we can help. Mark Miller, L2G Content Director |
