Hibiscus are heavy feeders, I believe. Death at 32F so have to be potted and bring indoors if you want em around.  I use Osmocote 8 to 9 mo (how long is lasts) slow release which is about 18-6-12 NPK.  This product looks like little round pellets (coated with a precisely permeable membrane) and can be left on pot surface or scratched into top of soil.  The membrane releases at 70F.

Keep your Hibiscus inside in full sun for rest of this winter and try the 4 to 6 mo Osmocote mentioned below to take advantage of slow release at 70F.  Lots of foliage (vegetative) without blooms (fruit) usually indicates too much N (nitrogen).  P (phosphorus) and K (potassium) promote blooms/fruit.  Usually when fertilizer discussions refer to "balanced blend" they mean equal numbers of NPK; as 20-20-20 which really blasts a lawn to lushness.

By the way Osmocote also comes in a 4 to 6 month version which is 14-14-14 NPK.

In the spring of '06 I rooted a cutting of a friend's tropical hibiscus and that summer placed put it on my back porch where it flowered beautifully. Last winter, I failed to bring it inside until it had died back to the roots, after which I nurtured it until spring when it forced out lush, new growth -- but no flowers, not even buds. Obviously, leaving it out too long was mean-spirited and unwise horticulturally. I have fed it well -- but not too well -- watered it frequently, and placed it in a sunny location for 3 months. It has turned into a lovely foliage plant. My question: how do I force it to flower?
