I live in Central Florida and we recently had 3 nights of freezing temps. I have 3 once beautiful bougainvillas that now seem to be severly frost bit. I know they are still alive because the lowest branches still have green leaves, but the rest of the branches have either dropped all their leaves or have black leaves. I've searched the net but can't seem to find the answers I need. Should I cut them back to where the green leaves are or should I just trim it a little or should I just leave it alone? If I do need to do some cutting, when should it be done? Help - I am a novice gardener trying to learn! Thanks!

Hello DeeLaura, it certainly was very cold here in Florida during the last
few weeks and lots of plants are now showing damage. Do nothing at this time.
There is still a chance another frost or freeze will come our way. Pruning
stimulates new growth which would be particularly susceptible to cold.

Once the danger of cold has past, about the first to middle of
March for much of Central Florida, prune the damaged plants including the
Bougainvillea until you find green wood; if all of the wood is dead, then cut
it to the ground, it may sprout again.
