Dehumidifier

Last summer here in Kentucky we had a severe drought. It was obviously hard then to get enough water for my garden. I know there are ways to conserve water like collecting water in rain barrels, but I was wondering, has anyone tried using dehumidifiers outside so that you can collect the moisture in the air to water the garden? You would of course need to have a weatherproof one and also a fairly large one to be effective but other than that, I can't see why it wouldn't work.
Any thoughts? |

I would imagine the electricity would be cost prohibitive. Perhaps a solar powered dehimidifier would work? It is also possible to make a solar still of sorts using a plastic covering over a drum or pit. Place unwanted vegetation or other moisture sources under the plastic and the condensation will collect on the cover. A small stone in the middle of the plastic will direct any drippage into a collection pan below. How's that for brainstorming? Good luck and keep the ideas flowing...
