It's a Columbine or Aquilegia. These plants readily produce seeds and natural hybrids. They do tend to pop up all over. Columbines need some cold weather and one of the plants I regret we can't grow here in South Florida. Congrats, it's beautiful. It looks like a golden columbine (Aquilegia chrysantha) cross. They've the extra long spurs and large flowers. How pretty! |

You know I was thinkin that is what it was, but, it is so HUGE. I saw columbine at the nursery it did NOT look this big, and there is just the one bloom. The older rural folks call it a Dragon Lilly, old common name maybe. I am letting it grow, I would not care if I lost a few Catnip plants to it :) It is grand. Lot of different variety on the Columbine. Thanks Jessie and Carol for your answer to my beautiful flower bed surprise.
